Life Hacks… Tiny kitchen? Tiny appliances!

Guest blog by Lily

So you’ve just moved in to your new apartment. It’s perfect, it’s cosy, it’s just the right size for you… then you realize that it’s not the right size for your furniture!

If you are anything like me when I moved into my place, you’ll be having that manic moment of realizing “oh no, I have to decide between having a fridge and having a cooker because my kitchen is about the same size as a broom cupboard!” So you figure out that you can balance the microwave on top of the fridge, do without a cooker and put the tumble dryer elsewhere… but then there’s the washing machine. When it’s all in, you only have a couple of square feet worth of floor space and feel like a battery cage hen. What can you do?

Well, we at Hughes understand that when it comes to capitalizing on space in the kitchen, it makes no sense to go all out on a state of the art American style fridge freezer and have no space for a cooker. That’s why we offer downsized versions of white goods from manufacturers we all know and love and I have compiled a list of the top 5 neatest kitchen appliances perfectly designed for even the tiniest kitchen.

• To kick it off at number five, we have the Indesit IS41V compact tumble dryer. Standing at a mere 67cm high, this perfectly compact dryer is half the size of your average under-the-counter machine. With a 4kg load capacity, a maximum load dry time of just 95 minutes, 13 different programmes and two drying temperatures the Indesit IS41V is surprisingly efficient and is so much more than just a cute appliance.

• At number four, it’s the Hoover DXC457W1 washing machine. What makes this machine compact is the depth. At only 40cm in depth, this washing machine is ideal to fit under narrow countertops. Hoover have not skimped on the product specs though; with 19 pre-programmed wash settings, an A+ energy rating, a respectable 7kg load capacity and 1500rpm spin speed it is on point with a lot of average sized machines.

• Carrying on the trend at number three is the wonderfully compact LEC T50084W fridge freezer. The reason I have included this model over an under-the-counter fridge freezer is simply how this product monopolizes on storage. Measuring just over 83cm high by 47cm wide, it has an impressive 29 litre freezer and a 63 litre fridge capacity. It has an energy efficiency rating of A+ and it comes with two fridge shelves… plenty of space for all your sweets and savouries!

• Our penultimate petite product is the Bosch SPS40E12GB dishwasher. Capable of holding up to nine place settings, this appliance is ideal for a smaller household. It has an energy rating of A+ and consumes a mere 2660 litres of water annually… nearly a quarter the amount consumed by your standard 14 place setting capacity machine! Measuring only 45cm in width, the Bosch E12GB allows you to benefit from capitalizing on space as well as being a planet-loving conservationist!

• So that brings us to number one… which is (drumroll please)… the Belling 121R table top oven and hob. Why does this deserve the top spot you ask? This ingenious little oven works the same way a standard electric convection oven works, with two solid ceramic hot plates and a grill… but is small enough to rest on your countertop! It’s perfect for preparing any type of meal; from warming up a tin of beans to cooking a full roast dinner and it’s no less efficient than a standard electric cooker. It even has an energy efficiency rating of A and easy clean enamel liners… so what’s not to love about this compact and very useful little cooker?
