As you are all probably aware the staff in our Fakenham store recently took part in the Shopkeeper’s Olympics. We are delighted then, that the organisers of that fantastic event are now planning a nine day fun and well-being activity event in and around Fakenham, where people of all ages and abilities can sample a huge range of leisure and sporting activities.
From kayaking, yoga and theatre to Ju-Jitsu, line dancing, rambling, running, writing and plenty more, there’s something for everyone with Get Active in Fakenham. Here’s just a sample of some of the amazing activities on offer between 16th and 24th August.
Saturday 16th August
FUN RUNS ROUND FAKENHAM RACE COURSE For all ages and abilities. Free shuttle bus from town centre from 10.00am. Starts from 11.00am. Stalls, food, face painting, bar, raffle, bouncy castle. FREE taster sessions – squash, indoor bowls & archery.
ROMEO OR JULIET. The Keeperʼs Daughterʼs Romeo or Juliet is a promenade theatre production of the classic Shakespearean love story; a truly an imaginative adaptation of the play. Choose your allegiance to either Montagues or Capulets and become a part of the story as events unfold around you. The Keeperʼs Daughter use non-traditional methods of theatre and film to stimulate imagination and nurture creative development. £10 (Concessions £7). Both performances £18. CANOE AND KAYAK Have a go at Kayaking and Canoeing on the beautiful river Wensum with the Ospreyʼs Canoe Club.
Sunday 17th August
THE GREAT FAKENHAM DUCK RACE 2pm, from Goggs Mill Bridge.
BALKAN DANCING Hempton Memorial Hall.
TABLE TENNIS TASTER AND COACHING Fakenham Table Tennis League are running this FREE session. 9.30 – 2.00pm. Fakenham Sports and Fitness Centre.
Monday 18th August
GET INTO RUNNING SESSION A one off session run by Active Norfolk includes a practical session, with tips on warm ups/cool down, focusing on how to progress your running. 6 – 7pm. Fakenham Sports & Fitness Centre.
LADIES SWORD CLASS Gentle introduction to (wooden) Samurai swords – good all round exercise.
JU-JITSU introduction to various Martial Arts, suitable for all ages (over 7 years old), male and female. Families welcome.
Tuesday 19th August
NATIONAL CITIZENS SERVICE EVENT Local young people will be devising, organising and promoting their own event. See publicity, website and social media for details nearer the time.
HEALTHY LIFESTYLE CHANGES MyTime Active Health Trainer with Active Fakenham. Support, guidance and encouragement to make healthy lifestyle changes; including losing weight and becoming more physically active.

ACTIVE FAKENHAM IT’S A SPORTY KNOCKOUT (1 hr. session) at the Fakenham Fair. Mixed teams of 6 (2 men, 2 women, 2 under 13s) Fun family sports competition for the Kick Start Fakenham Shield.

FAKENHAM 50 Riding North Norfolk is a great way to spend the day.
SUNSHINE CHILL OUT EXTRAVAGANZA Active Fakenham and Fakenham Community Centre. Barbecue, live music, inflatable, BMX display, massage, bar. KLFM Super Trouper Bear. In the centre and garden. 12.30 to 4.30pm. (if it rains this will be inside, in gazebos and a marquee) .
Our Fakenham Hughes team will certainly be doing their bit, too! As well as showing Sky Sports HD* all day, every day on all our TV’s in-store the team will also be distributing FREE Change 4 Life snack swappers. If you want to join in the fun, then collect a Get Active in Fakenham from our store and get your passport stamped each time you take part in an activity. Simply take part in any three activities during the week and you will receive a trophy!
