Review: Beko DTGC8000W Condenser Tumble Dryer

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year” or so the Christmas song told me, with “parties for hosting, and marshmallows for toasting.” But now that Santa has been and gone and we look around at the accrual of stuff, my eyes can’t fail but be drawn to the mountains of washing laying around, struggling to dry now that winter has set in. While we have been busy socialising, over-eating and shopping until we dropped, we can do without stressing over whether we’ll have dry clothes ready for the next get-together. So, with this in mind, the gift that I’ve treated our house to is an energy efficient tumble dryer that will take the stress out of clothes drying. The newest addition to our household is the Beko DTGC8000W tumble dryer.

The Beko DTGC8000W is a white, B energy rated, freestanding, 8kg condenser dryer; perfect for families, couples or individuals. It’s easy to operate and it features a variety of settings to accommodate a range of lifestyles.

On arrival, the machine sits packaged in layers of polystyrene and plastic wrapping, along with all the necessary paperwork, such as user manual, guarantee registration form and quick guide. As an added bonus, there is a plastic drain hose which can be connected to your existing waste pipe for automatic emptying, as an alternative to emptying the collection tank, which is sited in the top left corner of the machine. The cycle selector sits centrally, on a simple turn dial with large clear writing, making it easy to navigate the options and decide upon the programme that is best suited to your needs. Handy indicators on the right hand side let you know which functions are being used and make you aware of any problems, such as a blocked filter (there is a push button to access the filter, and two small swivel levers release it). At the end of each programme, the handy built-in buzzer will alert you once the cycle has finished, so you are never left wondering when your clothes will be ready to hang or put on.

When time is precious, we all need a quick programme and Beko’s 10, 30 and 60 minute programmes make smaller loads a doddle – ideal for partially dry clothing that just needs finishing off or fluffing and warming towels. Alternatively, if you want to set your machine to start later in the day, there is a 3, 6 and 9 hour delay option, to fit around your daily chores and working pattern.

Being an 8kg machine, the Beko DTGC8000W can easily take larger loads, such as duvet and pillow sets, thick heavy winter woollens & towels. I found that all garments are evenly dried throughout the cycle, thanks to the reverse action drum.

As this Beko machine uses sensor dry technology you can rest assured that the days of over drying – damaging clothes and spending more than necessary on machine running – are long gone. With sensor dry, it detects when clothes are moisture-free and stops, protecting your clothes and saving you money on your energy bills. You can even select your drying preference between cupboard dry or extra dry.

Beko know we all have particular garments we treasure, so they’ve equipped this machine with a variety of programmes. You can choose from programmes that are specially designed for jeans, sportswear and babywear, so you will have peace of mind that any special garments will dry at a temperature and time scale best suited to them. Whether you have a child’s football kit, a newborn’s romper suit, or just your favourite cashmere jumper to care for, the Beko is ideal. The DTGC8000W also has a child-lock feature so any households with young children running about the house pressing any buttons they can get their little fingers on needn’t worry. You simply hold two buttons to activate.

One last thing that really impresses me about this machine is the automatic anti-crease cycle, which means no lengthy ironing sessions at the end of it. Nobody likes ironing, right? Still, if you’re one of the few who do, there is no need to panic, as there is a specially designed “iron dry” setting for your cottons and synthetics.

In summary, the Beko DTGC8000W is a quality machine, packed with features, with a year’s guarantee from the manufacturer.
