Review: Bosch WAN28108GB Freestanding Washing Machine

Guest blog by James

This is no clunky, ugly appliance, it’s a really cool looking washing machine. There’s a large silver-white door with a 180 degree opening and a 30cm porthole. The large 8kg drum is perfect for a mid-sized family – or even if you live by yourself – as you’d hard pressed not to fit your entire household’s washing in all in one go. The 1400rpm spin speed means you will get through your washing nice and quickly, it comes with the VarioPerfect feature which means whether you pick speed or energy efficiency, you will get the same perfect wash performance every time; get that laundrette feeling from the comfort of your home!

The Bosch WAN28108GB’s low energy cost’s makes it even more ideal, with it being in the Energy Efficiency Class A+++, its energy consumption is 176 kWh per year, based on the 217 kWh standard washing cycles.

Another key to its performance is its low noise rating, again perfect for a family home in which you could run it at night without disturbing anyone’s sleep. This washing machine comes fitted with an Eco Silence Drive which makes the BCH-WAN28108GB emit the lowest level of noise possible (oh, and it comes with its own 10 year warranty. It has a washing noise level of 54dB going up to its spinning noise level of 76dB. This Bosch machine also has an Anti-Vibration Design for more stability and this aides the low noise levels. As for water consumption, it uses less than 10,000 litres per year, based on the 220 standard washing cycles. It boasts a generous 55 litre drum volume and uses an Active Water management system to care for your clothes efficiently, without wasting resources.

Put the washing on only to discover a sock (there’s always one rogue, elusive, runaway sock)? Well, another feature I’m keen on is its reload function; don’t panic! With the reload feature you have flexibility to add laundry items into the drum, even after the wash cycle has started.

In terms of functions, there are some handy programs which are easy to use, simple to understand and designed to make life that more relaxed. There are control buttons which include: start/pause with reload function, spin speed reduction, Aqua Plus option (for best rinsing results), temperature selection, Speed Perfect, Eco Perfect and a 24h start time delay.

This machine has a fully electronic control dial for its washing programmes, temperature and its special programmes, the special programmes include: Dark wash, Shirts, Sportswear, Mixed load, Allergy +, Super quick 15/30, Duvet, Night wash, Drum clean (with reminder), Rinse/Spin/Drain, Wool/Hand wash and Delicate/Silk programme. Having this easy-to-use dial and simple touch control buttons make this machine really easy to use; simply turn the dial to your selected load and then press start and away you go! To go with these features is a large display which tells you the programme progress indication, the temperature, the spin speed, remaining time, a 24hr end time delay and load recommendation.

A few additional features that I believe are worthy of mention are the easy cleaning detergent drawer and Bosch’s 3D Aqua Spa wash system with cascade for faster water penetration. There is also a child lock which stops the little ones from pressing things they shouldn’t and changing settings. One more little nifty feature is its Foam Detection system; if you put too much detergent in and fear it’s going to foam up to your detergent drawer don’t worry as this little feature will prevent that from happening. Finally, there’s a buzzer to let you know when your washing cycle has finished. If you needed one final thing to sway your judgement, it’s worth pointing out that this Bosch washing machine comes with a 2 year Bosch guarantee.

You can ask your local store for a demo or more information, buy online or even rent this machine for £4.85 per week.
