REVIEW: Fitbit Charge

Fitbit charge HR

Waaaaay back in January, I waxed lyrical about how I was going to get fit/ter… then in March I actually got around to pulling my finger out and doing something about it, following a review I did of an activity tracker, called the Fitbit Charge.  Well, in an unlikely turn of events (and against my usual approach of “All The Gear and No Idea”), I have stuck at it, improved my fitness and (generally) get loads more sleep and feel all the better for it.  So much so, that I went to see a personal trainer.  I know, get me, eh?  It was a free introductory session, needless to say.  There, the trainer explained the difference between different training zones (e.g. fat burning and cardio vascular) and fitted me with a chest band (awkward: under my flash sporty garb there lurked an old chewing gum grey sports bra) to monitor my heart rate at rest and during various exercises to demonstrate how to combine / isolate into fat burning or improved cardio exercising.  My faithful Fitbit Charge was there, throughout and the trainer spotted it and told me “You can get them with heart rate monitors on now.”  The remainder of my free session was, therefore, spent with me telling him all about the Fitbit range stocked in Hughes!  I had a free PT session AND bagged a sale; who says I can’t multitask?!

A few months on and I’m still obsessed with using my Fitbit Charge to check my activity. It’s extremely easy to set up and the downloadable app is free.  I still have my tried, tested and trusted functions to keep track of how I’m exercising and it’s that detail that I want:

  • Daily steps
  • Calories consumed
  • Floors climbed
  • Active time
  • Sleep monitor

I still want to lose weight, so being able to use the app to see what is doing that is great. I can also see that a few tweaks to my daily activity is increasing my cardio vascular activity: instead of watching the boys on the trampoline, I join in. This is definitely the next step to a fitter, healthier me.

Let’s pretend that picture is of me, shall we?
