Review: Hoover CA144BU2001 Capsule 2-in-1 Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

Guest blog by Dave.

My first impressions of the Hoover CA144BU2001 cordless stick vacuum cleaner were great, it is very lightweight at just 2.6kg and has been designed and built to a high standard.

The richness of the burgundy red finish adds a certain elegance to it and differentiates it from an ordinary looking vacuum cleaner into an appliance that I don’t feel I have to hurriedly stuff into the darkest corner, should friends or family arrive!

I would also like to mention that the box that it came in was nice and compact and easy to carry out to the car. When I unpacked all the tools they were individually wrapped and the instructions made it very easy to assemble.

The slimline, lightweight design makes it very easy to manoeuvre when using but also very easy to store in a small space, a very useful feature if you’re short on storage space.

It can be used as an upright cleaner, ideal for carpets and hard floors, or with the simple press of a button you can use it as a handheld unit, ideal for those hard-to-reach areas such as stairs and around furniture.

When operating across varied flooring types, you can switch from the hard floors and carpet settings with a simple tap of the foot; the simple switching system is easily accessible on the head of the cleaner.

Hoover™ cyclean technology means you get the power performance from the 14.4v motor along with the efficiency of the usage time. At a very reasonable 20 minutes of battery life per charge I was able to do my entire house in one go.

The ability to recline the unit down to the floor enables you to get right under your furniture, meaning the low profile front will gain access to those hard to reach areas without the hassle of moving heavy furniture.

As far as maintenance goes it couldn’t be simpler: the filters are easy to access and are washable and reusable and, coupled with the bagless design, there is no need to pay for any costly consumables.

Inside the box you get three attachments that will increase the accessibility of the unit. The rigid tube can be used to extend the reach of the handheld, meaning you gain access to the cobwebs hidden in the corners of the ceiling. The crevice tool will give you access to very tight spaces like down the side of the sofa or detailing around the skirting board. You can also combine the rigid tube and the crevice tool together to create an even greater reach. The third additional tool you get included is the soft dusting brush, great for going over uneven or delicate surfaces.

Worthy of mention is that the versatility of this appliance meant that it was also very useful to use in the car, the cordless design meant I was able to clean out my entire car without the need for endless power cables. I was able to get in between the seats with the crevice tool easily and use the dusting brush to get in between the cup holders and buttons on the centre console.

The bin capacity is a generous but modest 0.7 litres meaning you can cover large areas without endless emptying. I was able to go around my entire home and clean out the car and there was visibly till space to spare.

Overall, I found this vacuum very good value for money and very straightforward to use. I would definitely recommend this to someone that would like a lightweight vacuum that’s easy to use and can be used all across the home and also the added bonus of being able to use in the car also.
