Review: Hotpoint HFC2B19 Dishwasher

Guest blog by Dave,

I had the pleasure of being able to get my hands on the Hotpoint HFC2B19 Dishwasher. At 60cm wide, it tucks away perfectly in an under-counter space without the added concerns of having to check measurements from replacing an old dishwasher. This model also comes in a choice of two colours, white and silver, to fit with the design of most kitchens.

On first impressions, the appliance is well packaged and presented. Once the box is opened, the instructions are easily located and are incredibly simple to follow in regards to connecting to existing pipework.

This Hotpoint is very well built and the door opens smoothly, not like some of the lesser-known models I’ve researched that have felt light and flimsy, this model feels very sturdy and well-constructed. Inside the appliance, I could see extra care was taken in regards to the packaging of the shelves and basket, as well as providing detailed instructions on how to use the machine once it is set up.

My eyes were drawn first to the cutlery basket which has the option of having either a segregator grill to space the cutlery evenly or to fold them in and just have the eight spacious gaps for the ease of dropping the cutlery in. I thought this was a very good idea, especially that the grills remained attached and folded back, as I would imagine if they were detachable people wouldn’t have the option to revert back if they would have just thrown them away.

The trays match the rest of the machine with regards to durability, they seem very sturdy and I imagine they will last a long time, however the easily adjustable top tray is one of my favourite features. No longer will you need to dismantle and rebuild the machines brackets every time you want to put your tall wine glasses on the top shelf or oven trays in the bottom. The triggers are coloured orange for instant recognition and are as simple as pushing the triggers either side simultaneously and lifting the tray higher or lower. It’s a very well engineered design that would benefit any household with brilliant time-saving features for the ultimate ease of use.

Everything else within the machine is instantly recognisable from previous models; the salt cap in the base of the machine is easy to open and the funnel provided makes it very easy to fill up. The rinse aid hatch on the door is easily located and the tablet compartment is satisfying to open with just a press of a button to make it pop open with ease. Features that I couldn’t help but notice on the more superior models in the Hotpoint range are the foldable pins in the bottom tray for the ability to lay down even larger baking trays and pots, as well as the new 3D clean featuring the extra-rinsing arm.

Unfortunately, this model doesn’t feature a visible display to show how much longer is left on the programme however, in my case; this wasn’t necessary as I usually put the dishwasher on before bed. For me, these features weren’t necessary and I found that, by not having these features, it made this HFC2B19 very good value for money. In actual fact, at the time of writing this blog, this model was incredible value for money. It competed price-wise with lesser-branded machines and yet it still sported the amazing build quality and usability that is typical of the reliable brand.

In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a reliable and well-built machine. There are higher-priced models that feature extra-benefits however, if you only require a simple machine without all of the bells and whistles then this machine would be an excellent choice!
