Review: LG 43UK6300PLB 43″ UHD 4K HDR Smart TV

Guest blog by Stuart

If you want a medium sized TV at bargain price, with a lot of the bells and whistles that most mid-range televisions have and half decent sound quality, then the LG 43UK6300PLB is the television you are looking for.

Coming in at a decent screen size of 108 centimetres (or 43 inches if you are old school), the LG 43UK6300PLB is plenty big enough to fill a medium sized living room, or even in your bedroom if you want something a little larger than a portable television.

For a TV of this price it boasts a lot of features you would only expect on models when you pay a lot more. The Ultra High Definition screen boast a picture resolution of 3840 by 2160 you can watch stunning 4K pictures giving you 4 times the detail of standard High Definition. Add in the 50Hz refresh rate this makes this TV perfect for sports fan, and the avid gamer alike.

To get the most from Ultra High Definition, you need a stunning 4k source such as 4k Blu-ray player or Sky Q 2TB box with the multiscreen subscription (also available from Hughes). Not only that you need an excellent processor to process the Ultra High Definition signal. The LG 43UK6300PLB has this with its Quad core processor, or the ‘Brain’ as LG like to put it, giving you the best Ultra High Definition picture possible.

Did I mention it has got High Dynamic Range too, or HDR for short? Not just any old HDR, it’s got ‘Active’ HDR giving the best contrast between the brightest whites and the darkest black so any film scene from dark and damp scene to the brightness of the steps to heaven look just as great as it should do.

The in-plane switching (IPS) screen gives the widest of viewing angles so you will not be disappointed with the picture quality, no matter what angle you are viewing the LG 43UK6300PLB from.

One thing you may notice about modern day televisions is the just how poor television speakers are and the quality of sound they produce. I was pleasantly surprised when turning the volume up for the first time the sound is actually quite good, yes sound bars sound better and would definitely take this TV to another level, but if you don’t want to splash out the cash on one just yet, the LG 43UK6300PLB is one of the best sounding televisions out there.

For the environmentally conscious of you, the LG 43UK6300PLB is ‘A’ energy rated using on average 98 kilowatt hours of electricity a year on average usage, and while in standby mode uses under half a watt of electricity meaning the TV has to be in standby mode for over 2000 hours to use one unit of electricity, compare this to your average fast boil kettle which uses the same amount of electricity in just over 20 minutes of use.

The remote control has clearly displayed buttons with dedicated buttons for Netflix and Amazon Prime video so you can stream the latest films and TV shows when you want, whenever you want. It sits pleasantly in your hand with a button also to switch between Freeview TV and radio, making it easy to switch between your favourite TV and radio shows. Press the ‘Home’ button and easily navigate between all your favourite catch up services like BBC iPlayer, YouTube and Now TV or go to the LG content store to access more Smart TV services like Spotify and UKTV Play (for Dave, Drama, Really and Yesterday catch up), the latest movies, or games (which my favourite has to be Parking Panic – literally a game to show how to get out of a crowded car park).

If your favourite television shows suffer with ‘buffering’ and struggles to play, a good hint is to download the LG internet speed 2 app to tell you, well, your internet speed, if the speed is too low then you will not play your catch up television services.

Oh, and if 43 inches is not big enough for you, we also stock the 49 inch, 55 inch, and the 63 inch versions of this TV, so if you like it large there is a version of this television for you too.

As an overview, this is probably the best TV you can get for the money, it’s Smart, it has catch up TV, good sound quality, it has a Ultra High Definition resolution panel, it is environmentally friendly, it has the best viewing angles and it has a ‘brain’; what more do you want from a TV at this price? Of course there is better, there are the LG OLED televisions which would knock spots off this, but at this price this is one of the absolute best TVs out there.

Why not pop into your local Hughes store for a demonstration on what the LG 43UK6300PLB can offer you, you will not be disappointed. You can also buy online, use Click & Collect to pick up in one hour or even rent, for £5.08 per week.
