Review: LG SL8YG Wireless Soundbar with Dolby Atmos

Guest blog by Richard,

LG has produced yet another cracking soundbar this year with the SL8YG. It has a 3.1.2 channel setup, which means it has three speakers on the front of the bar, one subwoofer and also two upward firing speakers. Having this setup means that you’ll get a more immersive feel while watching your favourite content, such as Sky or Netflix.

LG’s SL8YG soundbar also features a 4K passthrough with High Definition Audio ability. This ensures that it will provide a consistent performance (Tip: You’ll need a HDMI cable for this!). This is where MERIDIAN technology, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support comes into play, enhancing your sound experience further by creating a sense of depth and motion which allows you to experience content as the filmmakers intended.

If you’re concerned about having too many wires, the LG soundbar can wirelessly connect to your TV set via Bluetooth, while the subwoofer wirelessly connects to the soundbar too. If you wish, you can still wire these products via HDMI or digital optical cable. HDMI supports ARC, which means when connected to a TV with an HDMI ARC slot, it is able to be controlled via the TV remote control. This removes the need to have both the TV and the soundbar remote – just one remote!

There is also an extra option of adding two rear speakers to create a fuller setup. This can be especially helpful if you have a larger room you want to fill with sound. We highly recommend the LG SPK8 rear speakers if you decide to go this route and you will be pleased to note that these are available to purchase from us both in-store and online.

Another helpful connectivity feature is the use of Google Assistant, which can work independently from the TV. This means that you can ask your soundbar to play your favourite music, what the weather is, or even set reminders on your phone. This is all controlled via the use of two apps – Google Home and LG’s exclusive SmartThinQ software.

It also ties in well with the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT), this app has continued to grow and is moving from stregth to strength. The Internet of Things enables you to connect multiple devices in your home – from your soundbar to your smart washing machine. LG really does have you covered in their SmartThinQ app.

If this seems too good to be true and you need more information, take a look at it online or visit your nearest Hughes store for a chat with our friendly team who are sure to give you a warm welcome.
