Review: Panasonic KXTG8163EB Digital Cordless Home Telephone Set

Guest blog by Rachel.

The Panasonic KXTG8163EB is a set of three cordless phones with a 50m indoor range, packed with a variety of features that will suit everyone. Its user-friendly interface brought to you by a global leading manufacturer means even the biggest technophobe will be able to operate it with ease, while those who are tech savvy, will enjoy getting to grips with the product and discovering all the extra things it can do.

When unboxing the phones, you will find 3x secure grip handsets, 1x informative manual, 1x base unit containing a 30 minute answerphone, 2x chargers, 3x AC power adapters, 1x phone line cord, 6x batteries and 3x belt clips. To install, simply slide the back off the phones, insert the batteries, and plug in the phone line. The two standalone handsets work off a 3 pin plug and can be installed in any room to suit your needs, such as a bedroom, study or living room.

The sleek design, with colour screen, will appeal to all ages and the clear speaker means it not only looks great but sounds great too, both when using the speakerphone function and for private conversation. The in-built microphone will easily pick up everything you say and the battery will give you up to 12 hours talk time (up to 250 hours on standby). For energy-conscious homes, the eco button will reduce power consumption by up to 90 percent.

Making a phone call couldn’t be simpler- dial the number you wish to call, or scroll through your address book (maximum 200 names/numbers) – and then press the green button. To end that call, simply press the red button. The phones can be set up with nine speed dial numbers for convenience and through paid subscription services, caller I.D. can be activated to save answering unwanted calls.

A simple yet effective function is the built-in alarm, which is ideal for waking you in the mornings, or setting reminders, such as taking medication or collecting children from school. For those with children, each phone has a key lock which will prevent any unnecessary phone calls being made; in the event of an emergency dialling 999 will still work. The key lock feature is turned on and off by holding down the #hash key for two seconds.

The phone ringtone (30 melodies available) can be muted at night using the “night mode” function but trusted numbers, such as loved ones, can be programmed to still get through – an essential feature for older teenagers who’ve missed the last bus home! The smart key button on the top of the phone will flash to alert you in the morning that you have missed a call or have a new message, meaning you never miss anything important.

These phones are packed full of features and with Panasonic’s 1 year guarantee they are a must have addition to your home.
