Review: Parrot Bebop Drone – the Quadricopter with a 14MP Fisheye Camera

Guest blog by Paul.

The Parrot Bebop Drone is a great toy – for big kids, everywhere! It delivers the best flight performance and is in stock now. The reinforced structure makes this drone robust and safe from bumps, which may be expected when learning to master the controls. That said, piloting this fantastic drone could not be easier, and there is even a free piloting application app “Freeflight 3” for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

Once you’ve got the app and you’re ready to go, you’ll find the drone is astoundingly stable in the air. To ensure its stability without compromising the manoeuvrability, the Bebop drone automatically analyses data from its on-board sensors: accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer.

Should there be an emergency in flight, the emergency function automatically stops the propellers and lands the drone.

The application is very user-friendly & allows the pilot to be focused on the pleasure of flying it.

“Freeflight 3” offers users complete control of their altitude and speed settings and piloting with a virtual joystick makes flight easy. It also includes fun features such as a one-touch Flip move, a perfect manoeuvre to show off your new piloting skills.

With integrated GPS, you can control your drone directly with the map: plan your flights on your smartphone and let your drone do the rest! The GPS is accurate to around 2 metres.

If you are wondering how this works outside of your home Wi-Fi, the Parrot Bebop Drone generates its own Wi-Fi hotspot, with its dual-band Wi-Fi antennas.

Equipped with a “return-home” feature, this clever drone can return directly to its starting position & once it has reached this position it will stop and hover 2 metres above the ground for you to collect.

This is a something you can use straight from the box as the unit is supplied with 2x batteries & and even an 8gb card to get you started, however we recommend upgrading this to 32gb card for video & flight plan information to be stored on.

The 14 megapixels fisheye camera comes with a splash and dust-proof lens for clear aerial footage which you can share on Facebook and YouTube.

You can even fly further with the addition of the Skycontroller!

With an amplified Wi-Fi 36 dBm radio and with four antennas, the Parrot Skycontroller extends the Wi-Fi of the drone.

Compatible with the vast majority of smartphones & tablets out there the pilot takes control of the drone via two ultra precise joysticks (shown above). This also give the option of FPV first person view.
