Review: Samsung KU6400 6 Series UHD HDR Ready Smart TV

Guest blog by Mike.

I have been selling televisions for more than twenty five years and during that time I have seen some major changes in technology. When I started in the industry, TV’s were black square boxes in four sizes: 14, 21, 25 and 28 inch. It was, looking back, relatively easy to sell TVs in those days; you would ask a customer what size they were looking for and if they had a particular brand preference. If they replied “We are looking for a 25 inch TV, preferably Sony” I would take them straight to the Sony 25 inch TV and that was that.

Then came the move from square screen to wide screen and I can still remember a lot of customers initially saying “I will never buy one of those rectangular TVs” before seeing the difference themselves and opting for widescreen after all! The TV manufacturing industry then developed and evolved from the big, heavy, cathode ray tube TV to flat plasma and LCD panels. People were paying £1800 for 26 inch LCD TVs and £5000 plus for 42 inch plasma screen TVs. With the introduction of led backlit LCD panels, manufacturers finally moved away from the large, less energy-efficient plasma panels to concentrate on LED and that’s primarily where we are today.

I’ve been asked to take a look at Samsung’s KU6400 range and in particular the UE55KU6400. The KU6400 range comes in five sizes, 40″, 43″, 49″, 55″ and 65″. The UE49KU6400 is a stunning, yet affordable, TV packed with the latest technology that will enhance your viewing experience. It’s not just a UHD panel, it’s packed with a lot of the technology normally reserved for more expensive ranges.

The Crystal Colour technology delivers stunning contrast and over 17 million true to life colours. High Dynamic Range (HDR) combined with Crystal Colour delivers fantastic brightness, superb shadow detail and natural colours. With UHD upscaling, everything you watch is transformed to near UHD quality and with UHD Dimming, the TV screen is divided into hundreds of small zones… analysing each one independently to adjust colour, brightness and sharpness.

Samsung’s success in the smartphone/tablet market transfers to their smart hub TVs, with a simple three step navigation system getting you quickly to where you want to be. Whether it be going onto your Netflix account, catch up TV or Amazon instant video, it’s just three clicks to your favourite content. If you’re a gamer, you can access loads of games from the Cloud without the need of a console. You can share content from your android and IOS device to this TV and also create personal playlists from the Samsung Smart View app.

Connecting additional devices via HDMI is so easy with Samsung’s Auto Detection System, with the device being automatically detected and displayed as understandable icons and names.

From a design point of view, this one is a beauty. The minimalistic 360 degree design impresses from all angles and the slim bezel leads your eyes to the picture, not the frame surrounding it. The pedestal stand is sleek and stylish, yet sturdy.

The 3840 x 2160 resolution makes for an amazing picture and with heaps more spec (HDR, mega contrast, UHD dimming, Active Crystal Colour, UHD upscaling and contrast enhancer to name a few) you can be sure that some of the best tech on the TV market is hidden inside, too.
