Review: Samsung QE55Q9FNA 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart QLED TV

Guest blog by Jon

The QE55QFNA is Samsung’s 2018 flagship model. It boasts all of Samsung’s top technologies which produces one of the best pictures from any TV currently on the market. It comes in various screen sizes, including 65” and 75 inches but in this blog we are looking at the 55 inch screen size.

Now moving on to the technologies. Firstly is 100% colour volume, defined as a three-dimensional representation that illustrates the colour reproduction capacity of a display at all of its luminance levels, colour volume is also an important standard for ensuring that content is displayed in the way the producer intended. Basically no matter how bright you have the TV, and it does go pretty bright you will see deep, vibrant colours all the way through.

Next is Q Contrast Elite, this ensures the TV has the ultimate contrast night and day. Direct dimming technology divides the screen into a series of tiny zones, with each able to independently adjust colour and brightness to deliver the deepest black levels. Never miss a moment of your favourite sport, even with the sunlight streaming through the window. It does this with 2 technologies; first is Direct Full Array Elite. Direct Full Array Elite accentuates even the smallest details by directly controlling each individual light unit, so the viewer will see dark areas darker and bright areas brighter. Secondly, is Ultra Black Elite, which uses a special anti-reflection technology on the film covering the display and the panel itself. That minimizes light reflection on the Q9F’s screen and enhances contrast levels.

Another important contributor is Q HDR 2000, this ensures that only Samsung delivers exceptional detail as the creators intended, with HDR 2000. Never miss the detail in the dark shadows of a horror movie, or the bright sun-filled scenes of the latest sci-fi. Q HDR 2000 is powered by HDR 10+ which is an advanced HDR technology, HDR 10+ makes sure every scene is precisely optimised for colour, contrast, and details.

That was just a few notes on the technologies that help produce stunning picture quality, now we move on to the physical TV itself. This model is perfect for wall-mounting for multiple reasons, not least Samsung’s One Connect box. This is a small box that sits away from the TV where you plug in your connecting cables, this plugs into the TV with one, near-invisible cable which also provides power. As there is only one cable plugged into the back of the TV it sits flush, allowing for a completely flat-to-wall bracket to allow this TV to be mounted with the screen touching the wall.

Once you have this TV on your wall you can use the ambient mode which gives you 4 modes. Décor mode allows choose from a range of backgrounds to inject a splash of colour into your room. Info mode will get the latest information, weather, major headlines on a new ambient background. Photo mode will allow you to relive your favourite memories. Turn your living room into a personal gallery by displaying photos from your mobile or the Samsung Cloud and finally music mode will let you listen to your music. Simply play your chosen music using voice command or from your smart phone. This is something a little bit different that makes your TV a feature of the room even when you’re not watching.

My overall opinion of this TV is that I am very impressed. The picture quality is outstanding, bright, vibrant and rich with sharp detail and an excellent motion rate. The features it has are pretty cool too and there’s a large smart capability with all the standard stuff. This means that alongside the catch up TV facilities there are also some great features, like Steam Link which is great for gamers.

Aesthetically, the no-gap wall mount and option of different pedestal stands really means it can suit any room shape and style. Ambient mode comes with pre-set options but also you have the option to match you décor and make your TV blend into your wall and look invisible. With a price point starting at £2499 in store or delivered free, this really is a TV worth considering. Ask your local store about a demo.
