Review: Samsung UE49MU6400 4K HDR TV

I have recently been testing out the 49” Samsung MU6400 TV which is also available in 40”, 49”, 55” and 65” size. The UE49MU6400 has incredible picture quality, especially considering it’s part of Samsung’s entry level 4k television; the quality is down to the 4k resolution. An important display feature is the HDR (High dynamic Range); this basically means it can take highest and lowest exposure of an image to capture a great picture. This can provide bright and colourful images and is particularly useful when watching colourful, fast-paced films and when playing games. Another thing with HDR is it provides an image that film makers shoot with and intend their films to be seen so you’re getting the picture the creator wanted you to see.

If you are a gamer, this is the ideal TV to get the full effect as the MU6400 range has a game mode within the picture settings. This enhances the picture to give you the best experience.

The colours look great thanks to the active crystal colour display, contrast enhancer and mega contrast technologies. This TV doesn’t do local dimming but for the price it’s a great picture.

The UE49MU6400 is a smart TV, so you can connect to the internet and watch online catch up TV, YouTube, Netflix and others. The great thing with Samsung sets this year is that you can also get BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub and 4 On Demand. So if you miss your favourite shows you can just use your smart TV to catch up. You can connect the TV through the integrated Wi-Fi or through the LAN port. It does also have the essential features, like screen share technology that allows you to share what’s on your smart phone on to the screen. The USB and Bluetooth support features allows you to connect a keyboard and a mouse to the TV through a Bluetooth connection or through a USB port which makes it a lot easier when using the televisions web browser. One of the best new features of 2017 Samsung TVs is the 360 video player, which is a great little addition.

Audio on the Samsung UE49MU6400 is delivered via two Dolby Digital Plus built-in speakers with 20w of power. That isn’t bad for a modern, slimmed-down TV but I’d recommend getting audio as good as the picture deserves with a Samsung soundbar. The great thing with the MU6400 range is that if you buy a Samsung soundbar with multi-room technology you can connect the two – without wires – and just use the one remote control. You can even connect Samsung multi-room speakers to the television and throughout your home and control them all via the Samsung Multi Room app. You can create a surround-sound system in your living room where you can send the sound from the television to speakers around the room or play music in one room – or many!

The Samsung UE49MU6400 has a silver coloured bezel, making it look stylish, no matter the décor. The frame is thin and the stand is not too big so if you are not wall-mounting and are going to put it on to a cabinet it will fit most areas without appearing obtrusive and bulky.

If you’re looking for a television and don’t want to spend huge amounts of money but still wish to have incredible features and a stunning picture then I say you need look no further than the MU6400 range. If you’re after the same specification TV but would prefer a curved screen then the Samsung MU6500 range is for you.
