Review: Sony GTKX1BT Wireless Hi-Fi System

Guest blog by Angela

If, like me, you prefer your music loud then the Sony GTKX1BT Wireless Hi-Fi System (or Party System) is an ideal product to pump out all those old cheesy disco party classics or if cheese is not your style, some half decent music as well. With an impressive 500w RMS power you are bound to get even the most reluctant groover on the dance floor.

Bluetooth connectivity means that the speaker can be controlled from your phone, tablet or laptop. Near Field Communication (NFC) is yet another way of wireless connection: just touch your NFC enabled device onto the ‘N’ mark on the speaker and away you go!

Now if you’re after something to embrace your inner DJ this really is the gadget for you, with four special DJ effects built in… The first being the rather technically named Flanger which creates a deep roaring effect; the second is WAH which distorts the audio; the third is an isolator which will isolate a specific waveband and lastly the PAN effect which sweeps the sound across the speakers. Move aside Martin Garrix, there’s a new DJ in town…

Now for the technical blurb: It has a 20cm woofer and a 6.6cm tweeter. It also has a rather fancy Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (or DSEE for short). Basically, when music is compressed it loses high frequency elements that add detail and richness to your music; the DSEE restores these elements so the music you will hear will be as close as it can get to the original CD recording. ClearAudio+ does exactly what it says on the tin. A process unique to Sony, ClearAudio+ automatically adjusts the sound settings to optimise the sound giving you a constantly clear and more importantly high quality sound.

Now if you are worried that you do not have room for this beast of a speaker or worry about where to place it, do not fear for the good guys and gals at Sony have already thought of this so it has a two way set up which means you can use it horizontally or vertically. More importantly, your sound quality is not compromised as the speaker can detect how it is set up with a built in sensor and adjusts the sound settings accordingly.

It has a “bass bazooka” which is a fantastic little feature which gives you the control of the bass so you can create a deeper-bassed, more powerful sound.

If you are concerned that one of these bad boys is not enough for you Sony again are already one step ahead of you for they have a thing called Party Chain to link multiple Party Systems to really blow your socks off!

You can get your music pumping out in a number of ways. If you have a lonely USB stick with tons of high quality music sitting in the corner feeling neglected… Plug it in for a USB port is ready and waiting. Or you could go old school: audio in and out connections mean that you can hook up a TV or even a games console. There’s even a built in FM tuner.

So in closing, if you are sitting at home with the January blues and feel sad because you are still £400 short for Ibiza… Salvation has come in the form of this Party System… Avoid the Clubland crush and take this down Cromer Beach instead – it will not disappoint!
