Review: Sony XD70 4K HDR LED Android TV with YouView

Guest blog by Sam.

I have seen a LOT of changes to TVs… from the features and functions added  to the new tech introduced – even in the last few years – the rapid advancement of TV technology can make choosing your next TV feel like a daunting task, rather than an exciting and enjoyable choice.  I have been taking a look at the Sony KD55XD7005BU from this year’s range. This set is the 55” version, however if you’re looking for a smaller set of this quality it is also available as a 49” model, the Sony KD49XD7005BU. The great thing with these particular sets is the cracking picture quality of the 4K HDR TV but at a price that isn’t as expensive as comparative televisions with the same technology. So, if you’re looking for a 4K 55” TV but don’t want to spend too much then look no further!

The Sony KD55XD7005BU is a smart television, offering all the apps and functions that you’d expect – and more besides.  Sony has done a fantastic job with their Android operating system built into this television.  This means that not only will you get BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube but you also get access to the Android Play Store where you can download Android apps onto the television – even games which would normally be played on a smartphone or tablet. Nothing beats being able to play Disney’s Crossy Road on a 55” television! On top of all of this, you can sign in your android account and use screen mirroring from your current android devices.

With regards to connectivity, this TV boasts a good range of connections available to plug in. You get 4 HDMI sockets (which is great as a lot of televisions now only offer three), 3 x USB 2.0 slots meaning you can plug multiple HDD’s or memory sticks into the television. For anyone who still has a DVD or even a VHS player/recorder there is even a scart socket on the back of the television.

This television has great picture quality. This is thanks to certain features that make up the TV. Firstly, the fact the television is a 4K television means that the pictures will have a lot more pixels that make up the picture. To the viewer, you will see a lot more detail in the picture, especially when watching films. Secondly, this Sony TV is what’s called an HDR television (high dynamic range); what this basically means is that the television measures  the contrast between the brightest whites and the darkest blacks to give you best picture quality.

Sony has equipped this TV with 4K X-Reality PRO which will enhance every picture up to 4K. Every pixel is individually enhanced with amazing clarity by Sony’s most powerful 4K picture processing technology ever. The individual parts of each scene are constantly analysed and then matched within the special image database that independently addresses the texture, contrast, colour and edges. The difference is clear with supremely lifelike detail, no matter what it is that you’re watching.

And if all that wasn’t enough, Sony has also incorporated MotionFlow XR. MotionFlow XR keeps the action smooth, defining crisp images and sharp details even during fast-moving sequences. MotionFlow XR is one of Sony’s most innovative technologies; it creates and inserts extra frames between the original ones. In a fraction of a second, it not only compares key visual factors on successive frames, it then calculates the split second of missing action in the sequences and adds it, seamlessly!

This TV is a really fantastic set at a great price.  You can choose to buy this TV online and enjoy free delivery and a free five year parts and labour warranty; use our Click & Collect service to collect from your nearest store in as little as one hour* or rent for just £9.23 a week.  Of course, we always welcome people to speak to their local store to ask about a demo.
