Review: The Samsung MU7000 range

I’ve been reviewing the Samsung MU7000 range, looking in more detail at the UE49MU7000 (49”) model.

The MU7000 range is one of Samsung’s mid- to high-end TV series that starts off with a respectable 49” screen size. It also comes in a 55”, 65”, 75” screen sizes and even a mammoth 82” screen for the movie lovers (like me) that are looking to recreate a cinematic big screen experience in their own homes.

The Samsung MU7000 is spec’d out with a fantastic 4K picture and HDR (High Dynamic Range); the 4k & HDR effortlessly work together to deliver the bright, vibrant picture Samsung is well known for, complementing the picture with Dolby Digital 2.0 sound.

One of the unique features of the TV (and those above this one in Samsung’s range) is the ‘One Connect’ media box. One Connect is Samsung’s solution to making a thinner TV without compromise; you’ll find all your essential connections in the separate One Connect box. This means there are only two cables going to the TV, one for the box and the other for power. This is a great solution for clean and tidy wall-mounting and for those with closed door media cabinets. The One Connect box includes four HDMI connections, three USB 2.0 connections, an optical connection, Freeview HD and a Freesat HD tuner. Its innovative design allows you to connect and control your 4K BluRay player, soundbar and any other devices, even if they are hidden from sight. The One Connect box automatically recognises and names any device you connect to it, allowing you to find devices and hardware easily.

With its sleek and modern design the MU7000 will fit with the décor in any home and look great. It has close to a bezel-less display to give you a near-seamless design. Its uncluttered design gives it an elegant finish.

If you are looking for a TV you can place on your wall, the MU7000 can be wall-mounted with Samsung’s flat mount, giving you a modern look with a minimal gap from the wall.

The MU7000 has an 8-bit UHD 4K panel with 8,000,000 pixels, making the set one of the best value TVs on the market with a picture well above its price point. When paired with Sky Q, Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube or UHD Blu-ray you really appreciate the amazing picture quality of UHD on this TV. It is also perfect for gamers with input lag/ latency of only 15ms (in game mode), making this TV the ideal choice for those who what to get the edge over the enemy.

After using the MU7000 I found that I was impressed with the picture quality and the response on the remote and smart remote which was quick and easy to use as everything I needed was right in front of me. Giving me quick access to all the things I wanted being my Netflix and all the catch up services that I like to watch.

As we often find, TV sets this thin don’t have huge voids to fill with speakers so I would truly recommend getting a soundbar, soundplate or similar to ensure the sound is as outstanding as the fantastic picture. After a great deal of research (and tinkering), I found that one outstanding option is pairing the UE49MU7000 with the HWMS550 all-in-one smart soundbar to give you more of a immersive sound and teaming it with a UBDK8500 4K BluRay player (also available to rent for just £4.62 p/w) turns quality films into a real cinematic experience.

Samsung have made huge inroads when it comes to voice commands, an oft-overlooked but incredibly useful feature. Samsung have made it so you can even change the way the TV works without even having to go into the settings; simply hold the ‘Mic’ button and talk into the remote to change the volume, brightness and some other settings, too. I also found it incredibly useful going into my catch-up TV and streaming services as I didn’t have to scroll through menus to get to them.

The MU7000 range from Samsung is incredible; buy online or ask your local store about a demonstration. You can also rent this range; the 49” model is available to rent for £13.85 per week, the 55” model is also available to rent, with the 65” model available to rent for £20.77pw.
