Our Hughes Plus store on Hall Road, Norwich is delighted to announce it is raising money to support “Care for Clare” in Norwich on the bank holiday weekend of 2nd – 4th May. Care for Clare is a charity that raises money for pupils at the Clare School.

The Clare School is a specialist ‘Physical/Sensory’ complex needs school located in our local community of Norwich. Pupils at the school have physical disabilities and / or sensory impairments; the school aim is to provide an environment that celebrates and encourages success and achievement, a fantastic philosophy I think we can all agree we would like to aspire to.

Among many important projects “Care for Clare”  is currently trying to raise money for a Hydro-therapy pool to aid pupils with their learning and Louise, one of the managers from our Hall Road store, believed they could help Care for Clare with their fund raising efforts.

I asked Louise to give me a little insight into what a Hydro-therapy pool is and how it can benefit the pupils in their learning.

“A Hydro-Therapy pool is a unique environment that would allow some of the student’s freedom to move and independence that they otherwise may not be able to experience in day to day life.  One of the girls at the school, Chloe, suffers from Cerebral Palsy meaning she spends much of her time in a wheelchair as she is unable to walk, sit up or support herself independently.  The one place Chloe is able to be completely independent is in a swimming pool but unfortunately most swimming pools are not equipped to support her needs and the water is too cold for her.  A Hydro-Therapy Pool at the school would allow Chloe a safe, familiar place where she can be warm, Independent and relaxed without the restraints of her wheel chair.  Unfortunately the cost of building a Hydro-Therapy pool is in the region of £500,000, a sum the school is unable to fund by itself.  When I heard about the schools’ fundraising efforts I felt it was right that as a local business we tried to support Care for Clare and I contacted them about having a fundraising weekend in their honour.  They were delighted that we wanted to help and it is pleasing to know that as a local business for over 90 years Hughes is able to offer something back to the community that has supported us for all of those years”

So, on the May bank holiday weekend the staff at our Norwich store will be embracing the fund raising spirit and will be dressing up as their favourite super hero to help raise money for this fantastic cause.  No longer will you need to wonder what it’s like to receive EXPERT advice on all your electrical needs by the one and only Superman, because we will have the answer.

As well as the staff dressing to impress we will have some AMAZING EXCLUSIVE 3 day offers only available at our Hall Road store with an extra 5%* off our already low special bank holiday deals and 3 months half price on all new rental agreements.

We will also be supplying FREE coffees and cakes (with the option to donate) with any money donated going straight to Care for Clare. We will also be selling raffle tickets in store to give one lucky customer the chance to win a BRAND NEW LG WASHING MACHINE.

On top of this we will have a bouncy castle on site for the children to enjoy and lots more going on in store.  The bouncy castle has been kindly supplied by the lovely folk at Broadland Bouncies

So please visit us this Bank Holiday weekend and help us in giving back to and supporting our local community and this fantastic cause.  You can also make direct donations to this great campaign by visiting the Care for Clare JustGiving page here.
