Trade Review: the SEBO DART 1 Vacuum Cleaner

Blog by Peter at Hughes Trade Norwich,

After years of cordless Dyson units being used as the staple vacuum cleaner, for both domestic and some commercial environments, we urged for a SEBO DART to use in the office. The unit is quite striking with its retro design, but the functionality this unit has is anything but retro.

Firstly, let’s be clear, it’s a bagged unit. Some people will be instantly turned off by this, however this is a plus in a commercial environment; there are no filters to change and a large 3.5L capacity bag means that there is less maintenance involved. The bag is easily changed at the top of the unit – one click and it pulls out. The DART has the power to vacuum a multitude of surfaces to a high ability using the 1000w motor and the 175w brush motor. The adjustable head means that whether it’s a carpet or hard floor (we have both) it will manage to provide a decent suction by simply turning the dial on the front of the unit to change the height of the bar.

For me, the best thing about this vac is the agility and manoeuvrability of it. At first glance, it is a rather heavy unit, but once turned on the powered floor head and ergonomic handle helps it glide across the floor. Its twisting head is also so easy to control; it can be used to go under desk units thanks to the clever flat-to-floor design. Sebo have also designed a suction unit, which detaches from the power head and becomes a portable unit ideal for cleaning raised surfaces such as desks, or stairs, especially when used in conjunction with the detachable nozzle and crevice tools. This again is simple to detach with just one press of a button located at the base of the main body, very clever and very simple.

The build quality of the DART is second to none and, as you would expect with SEBO being a German brand, they are notoriously reliable. Maintenance is simple, with the area prone to blockages accessible via an orange-coloured panel on the bottom of the unit.

In summary, the SEBO DART is quite simply the only vacuum that you should be considering for any light commercial office environment. Having used many during my time in trade, it is by far the best unit we have come across and we are likely to be using it for a long time to come.
