UPDATE: Billy’s Back on His Own 2 Feet Campaign

Wisbech Billy Lee race

Back in February, we bought you a blog about a great fundraising campaign that was aiming to bring much-needed funds to a young man, Billy Lee.  Billy, aged just 20, had been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer known as sarnovia sarcoma, after complaining of severe pain in his knee, which later spread to his hip.  Unfortunately, by the time the diagnosis was made, a tumour the size of a baked bean tin had grown in his leg.  Subsequently, Billy’s right leg and part of his hip was amputated. Billy was told that he would be confined to a wheelchair or crutches for the rest of his life as the NHS was unable to fund a prosthetic limb for an amputation of this kind.  The fundraising campaign sought to raise funds of £70,000 to enable Billy to get a fully functioning leg.

David and the team at our Wisbech store were so moved by the campaign to help that their ideas came thick and fast – as did the donations and fundraising ideas on Billy’s Facebook page!  The amount quickly neared, reached and then exceeded the initial amount to raise sufficient funds to get Billy his new leg and we’re delighted to report that Billy will be fitted with his new leg very soon.  That’s not the end of the story for Billy, his family or his army of loyal supporters though; the leg needs highly skilled, technical attention and servicing to ensure it continues to function correctly, fits well and is properly maintained.  David and the team want to help Billy’s new lease of life be a long-term thing so they continue to raise funds for and support this young man with David shortly undertaking the King’s Lynn 10k run on Sunday  3rd May and raising money for Billy Lee.  To donate you can click here or visit our Wisbech store.  To David and everyone taking part in the Bespak 10k King’s Lynn Great East Anglia Run – GOOD LUCK!
