The festive season is approaching and that can only mean two things: presents and parties. One product that tops the list time and time again, is audio. Whether it’s for a present or party, demand for quality audio is higher than ever. The most popular are Bluetooth and wireless, although we have many products, very rarely could we offer both. That was until Samsung released their latest offering: the R5 Wireless 360 Multiroom Speaker. Audiophiles will know that Sonos currently dominate the market in wireless audio and Bose offering some fantastic Bluetooth speakers, the question is… can Samsung compete? It’s time for me to test the latest innovation to find out.

Developed in a state of the art lab in the United States, Samsung have really gone all out to make sure that the R5 can offer customers not only high quality audio but offer it in a way that has never been heard before. Thanks to it’s unique technology, the R5 is able to disperse sound evenly in all directions, filling the entire room perfectly.

The R5 has a very unique cylinder design. This is not only designed to be aesthetically pleasing, but to also provide a precisely calculated gap between the speakers and acoustic lenses to equally disperse audio around your home.

The R5 has some excellently unique features, such as the tap to stop/play function. This is a really useful function, so let me explain further… you are in the house and you have music playing through a system in the lounge. Just as your favourite song comes on you have to go upstairs, however you can’t take the system with you. With an R5 in the lounge and one in the bedroom you can pause the music downstairs and carry on where you left off upstairs. Want to skip a track? Not a problem – just swipe the top of the R5 to skip back and forth.

Can’t choose between Bluetooth or internet streaming or want the confidence of both? No problem: the R5 connects to your home Wi-Fi with ease, enabling you to stream music at the touch of a button. No internet service? Again, no problem. If you have music stored on your device and it has Bluetooth, simply connect it up and play.

One thing that customers always ask is ‘How difficult is it to set up?’ And my answer is, it isn’t. Quite simply download an app onto your device or computer and follow some simple steps to set up. Want an additional speaker? The set-up is even easier, simply plug in and after a matter of moments the unit will connect automatically to your existing system.

At the start of this review I said that the R5 would face some tough competition in the form of Sonos and Bose, and pondered if it could compete. After using the R5 for a few weeks, I have to say that with it’s unique design, brilliant sound and the fact it offers both Bluetooth and wireless connectivity, it is a resounding YES!
