Every man and his dog has a Bluetooth speaker range, so when you find one that’s so different to everything that’s gone before, it leaps out at you. We asked one of our reviewers to check out the Bose SoundLink Micro Bluetooth® speaker and, now that we’ve managed to prise it from her steely grip, one lucky reader will WIN a Bose SoundLink Micro of their own. Read on to find out more and to be in with a chance of winning our fantastic competition.

The SoundLink Micro is Bose’s smallest speaker yet; it hides some clever features and functionality that makes it small – but mighty. I’d seen these funky little speakers online and was toying with the idea of getting one for my very active (but very clumsy) husband. This review, then, would be a great opportunity to put the Bose SoundLink Micro through its paces.

Once I’d unboxed the Bose SoundLink Micro, the first thing that I thought when I saw the speaker was “Awwww, that is so CUTE!” Pebble-shaped and around a palm span, it’s a nice looking piece of kit, available in understated black, classy midnight blue or a striking bright orange (my favourite). Flip it over and you find a flexible, tear-resistant securing strap on the back; this silicone band allows you to take this pocket-sized speaker with you no matter where you go. Hook it to your bike, strap it to your rucksack or hang it from a handle – this rugged speaker takes it all in its stride.

Big mistake, judging a book by its cover, as I found out once I’d streamed some music through it; it’s only tiny until you turn it on. Bose’s patented passive radiator technology powers this speaker and, despite its small stature, the sound is loud, clear and there’s no distortion apparent, whatsoever.

This speaker withstands a lot. In a busy household, with two children under 10, we like things that are robust and this speaker certainly measures up. Accidents happen a lot in this house and this time we weren’t left with a ruined speaker when they did. Bose has chosen silicone rubber for the SoundLink Micro’s exterior. This high quality material has allowed Bose to eliminate as many seams and gaps as possible to make it incredibly durable, no matter where you take it. This silicone exterior and clever design means that it can easily hold up to heavy-handedness, dents, scratches and cracks.

After sound performance, my favourite feature is the fact that you can get it wet. Very, very wet. Bose has built the SoundLink to survive a fall in the pool or a splash in the sea. There’s no need to panic if you drop it. Just pull it out, shake off the water, hit play and it is back to perfect playback. When it comes to waterproofing, Bose has made a speaker that not only performs the first time you get it wet—but every time you get it wet. They’ve used an IPX7 rating as a benchmark, and then they’ve taken it further.

Taking control of what you listen to is incredibly easy, thanks to the Bose Connect app. Be the DJ and take control of your SoundLink Micro speaker’s Bluetooth connections easily through the app. You can even let someone else choose the tunes by switching devices through the app and let them take control, leaving you free to bust out your best moves – no matter where you are!

If loud just isn’t loud enough, you can use the app to wirelessly connect two SoundLink Micro speakers in “Party Mode”. You can also switch to “Stereo Mode”, making your music come alive as instruments and vocals naturally separate.

We have one Bose SoundLink Micro Bluetooth Speaker to give away to one lucky winner; to find out more and to be in with a chance of winning just head to our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages to find out how you can enter our brilliant FREE competition.
