Wisbech Climbing Snowdon for Marie Curie

This year David Youngs from Wisbech has decided to do a walk/climb up Snowdon with 4 other work colleagues this August. It was decided to do something different and raise funds for Marie Curie in memory of former work colleague Jon Foley, who sadly passed away 3 years ago. In the last 2 years, staff have been involved in an annual football match between the branches and depots from around the Kings Lynn area – this has raised over £1600 through donations and raffles.

Jon was a keen Welsh rugby supporter… after speaking to his daughters Sian and Laurette, we soon realised that they were both born and spent their early childhood years in South Wales. From this the Snowdon idea appeared – David has already climbed Snowdon a couple of times (just over 13 years ago) and can remember it taking roughly 5 hours. There are not many hills around the Wisbech area to practice on, so this will be a challenge. Last year David and 2 colleagues visited the 35 Hughes branches, covering an impressive 486 miles on a bicycle and raising funds for EAAA – so this will be like a “walk in the park (Snowdonia National Park, that is)”.

David has recruited fellow Wisbech staff members Stephen Holt and Adam Gray to join him along the way, plus Area Manager Malcolm Tuff and Haverhill Branch Manager Sam Potter. They are looking to leave on Sunday 27th August and climb up and down on August Bank Holiday Monday.

David is also hoping to arrange a football match in September to help raise further funds for Marie Curie.

If anybody wishes to donate or sponsor the team, then please feel free to pop into the Wisbech store at 48-49 Market Place or visit justgiving.com/Hughes-Snowdon – A big thank you goes out to everyone that has support them so far!
