Working with RSPB

Our friends at the RSPB Minsmere Reserve are often asked why they don’t have live camera footage broadcast in their visitor centre. Well, now they do, thanks to Hughes Electrical.  Diane Hurn, manager at our Southwold store, is pictured (above) handing over  a 24” Panasonic LCD Television. A non-intrusive camera is located inside a nestbox and connected to the TV inside the visitor centre.  The RSPB team hope that a family of great tits or blue tits will decide it is a suitable place to nest and raise their young.

The nestbox and camera is situated on an oak tree just outside the visitor centre and the images can be viewed in the shop.

The camera is up and running and hopefully we’ll see some occupants soon. It is now coming up to the time when prospecting for a nest will start and on an already exciting note we have even had great tits roosting in the box overnight – a promising start!

Check the RSPB website for updates of any news as and when it occurs, and of course you’re welcome to call into the visitor centre to see the live action for yourself during the spring. Once the breeding season is over the camera will switch to the feeding station.

If you’d like to watch the wildlife in your own garden, the nest box and camera are available to purchase from the RSPB shop at £149.99.
