Hello!

How to start a blog.  Or probably not.

Schools don’t teach you how to start a blog.  Or they didn’t.  They probably do now as it would appear that twenty some years has miraculously evaporated.  (How can it possibly be nearly a quarter of a century ago that I was at school?)  I suppose that brings me nicely (if scarily) on to what this blog – or this blog writer – is all about.

I don’t know about electrical stuff, not really, which you may think would make me the worst person to write a blog for an electrical company but no, this makes me the ideal person to write about gadgets and gizmos and that (honest Mr Hughes, honest).  See, if you want to know about the techy stuff: the screen resolution of a TV, the efficiency rating of a freezer, the wattage output of a soundbar, the available RAM on a hard drive and so on, then allllllllll that information is available… and utterly, utterly indecipherable to me.  Instead, I will set out to tell you how all this stuff works in the world of a (late) thirty-something, Mum-of-two with only a passing acquaintance with current technology.  Saying I am not very technologically adept probably doesn’t seem like a sensible career move for someone employed by an electrical retailer but, bear with me, I shall explain all in less than 407 words.

After many years working in a completely unrelated business, I found myself in the family way and traded in hot beverages and occasional intelligent conversation for lukewarm tea and goo goo gaga.  Now, Thing 1 and Thing 2 are here (in the world, not in the office), thereby completing our family, so it seemed a good idea to get a part-time job.  My Significant Other also works in this industry so I was fortunate to hear about a part-time copywriting job.  I can write! I know the difference twixt there, their and they’re.  I want part time!  Perfect.  For two days a week I get delicious hot tea whilst I read, review and write stuff while our little ones go and charge around nursery.

I’ve never blogged before and, to date, my most regular diary entries were as long ago as 1985 (all George Michael & Duran Duran) so join me on a journey of double discovery as I try to work out how stuff works whilst figuring out how to work WordPress…  This could be fun!
