Supporting Digestive Disorders Foundation (Suffolk)

DDFS2
Stomach ache, upset tummy, dicky belly; whatever you call it, most of us have suffered at some point and know how rough it can make you feel.  Some people, however, have to deal with a digestive disorder every day.

There are many digestive disorders, such as ulcers, colorectal cancer, hiatus hernias and diverticulitus; all cause discomfort and pain and some can kill. Each year in the UK, more than 4 million people consult their doctors about such problems – 500,000 go into hospital and about 60,000 die of these diseases.

The Digestive Disorders Foundation (Suffolk) raise money in Suffolk to help Suffolk hospitals in the research, treatment, cure and prevention of these many painful disorders and diseases.

They give grants to relevant medical staff to enable them to go on courses and buy books to help them keep abreast of developments in their specialised field. They have virtually no administrative expenses; all their fundraising work is done by dedicated volunteers and they have no premises to maintain. About 92p in every pound raised goes to the two hospitals at Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds.  Because of this great work that they do, we are very happy and proud to support the DDFS.  Pictured, above, is Judith Steward, Treasurer of DDFS receiving a DVD player for their forthcoming raffle, from Felixstowe Road store manager Daryl.

The very active “Friends of the DDF” organise local fundraising activities such as concerts, social functions, an annual draw and street and store collections. The friends issue regular newsletters, which report on what has taken place and give details of future activities. Should you wish to become a member or a supporter, you can find out more here.
