Full steam ahead for Henham Steam Rally

Visitors to our  SouthwoldHalesworth and Beccles stores this week are starting to see the build-up to the annual HenhamSteam Rally becoming evident.  This will be the 40th year that the event has taken place and promises something for everyone!
Henham Rally

Some of the highlights include:

Puffing Devil – a first for Henham!
A replica of the first successful self-propelled vehicle, invented by Richard Trevithic in 1801. This is its first visit to East Anglia.

Dancing Does
Marvel at these ungainly-looking Doe Triple D tractors while as many as eight of them demonstrate their manoeuvrability by dancing for your pleasure. A sight to behold!

Imps Motorcycle Display Team
This world famous team will have you mesmerised with their display of discipline and skill. You will also be stunned to learn that the youngest performer is only 5 years old.

Dog Show
The dog show has been revived – thanks to Wangford Veterinary Clinic! It was once a popular feature of early Henham rallies and we’re confident it will be just as popular today. It will be a fun event and you can enter your dog into the competition on the day.

But that’s not all; visitors can also enjoy:

  • Working steam demonstrations
  • Vintage & classic cars and motorcycles
  • Vintage commercial & military vehicles
  • Vintage tractors & stationary engines
  • Ken Fox Wall of Death

The organisations actively engaged in running the Rally are the Parochial Church Councils of Wangford-cum-Henham, Uggeshall & Sotherton, Wangford Community Council and Southwold (Sole Bay) Lions Club. They are supported by a group of volunteers and organisations who provide many types of help from ground preparation to parking and the many other tasks that, hopefully, make any visit to the Rally enjoyable.

That the Rally needs more help each year may be gauged from the fact that the 1975 Rally attracted some 205 entries and recent rallies saw over 1200! The visitor numbers have also grown and in a good year we expect to see up to 15,000 people on the ground over the weekend. The organisers always appreciate offers of help from individuals and organisations to set up and/or work on the days of the Show ~ all the staff are volunteers and all of the monies raised go to the organising group and other charities.
