Welcoming visitors to the Duxford Air show & Cambridge

The team at our Cambridge store are greatly looking forward to the Duxford Air Show, next week.  Taking place on the 13th and 14th September, thousands of visitors attend the fantastic spectacle that is the Duxford Air Show, an entertaining aerial spectacle with a fabulous family atmosphere.  A hugely popular annual event, the Duxford Air Show features the Red Arrows (Sunday), the powerful Avro Vulcan (Saturday only), the Gnat Display Team and a flypast by a Tornado GR4 (both on Saturday only), five Supermarine Spitfires and a Search and Rescue demonstration by a Westland Sea King.

The Great War Display Team takes to the skies with replica Fokker DR-1 triplanes, Sopwith triplane, Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a aircraft, Junkers CLI aircraft and Royal Aircraft Factory BE2 aircraft.  Also flying is a replica First World War Nieuport 17.

Over 40 aircraft are taking part in The Duxford Air Show.  IWM Duxford, close to Cambridge, is Britain’s best-preserved Second World War fighter station with a remarkable history that dates back to its establishment in 1918. This famous heritage site began life as an airfield during the latter stages of the First World War. It went on to play a vital role during the Second World War, firstly as an RAF fighter station during the Battle of Britain and later as a United States Army Air Force fighter base. IWM Duxford is still a working airfield today from which historic aircraft fly on a daily basis.

There’s plenty to entertain you across the museum.  On the Hangar Base, there is a display of stunning contemporary cars, where you can also test your driving skills with the Racing Aces simulators.

Living history group Ops 1939-45 bring Second World War history to life with their RAF dispersal hut and timed Bomber Command briefings.

Colonel Rich Graham returns to regale visitors with tales of flying the SR-71 Blackbird which is now on display in the American Air Museum.

IWM Duxford will be open from 8am to 6pm. The flying display will start at approximately 2pm and finish at approximately 5.30pm, leaving plenty of time to explore the exhibition spaces or take a stroll around the beautiful streets of Cambridge City centre.  IWM Duxford is approximately 15mins drive away from our lovely Cherry Hinton store, where Justin and the team are happy to help with all things electrical, from gadgets to appliances, audio to the latest visual.
