In the Movies!

It’s not every day we’re contacted by movie production companies and even less by movie production companies owned by much respected Oscar winners. So unusual in fact the first reaction was that of surprise.

In the summer we were approached to supply electrical products to be used in a film. They needed a load of TV’s, Dyson’s and Kitchen Appliances, they wanted to hand them back after they’d finished with them and needed them at relatively short notice on a particular day. Due diligence and arrangements were made and two HGVs loaded to full capacity were despatched on a Sunday to a low profile address in Glasgow.

On arrival the security was in place but little else was set up, just enough time for some rest then. A short while later, early on Monday morning, we unloaded into a flurry of activity. Set builders distressing the exterior, prop companies delivering, neighbours rubbernecking and a handful of clipboards with their owners.

Roll on a week and we are told filming took place on the Friday, that it went well but into the night and that our products can be collected after the weekend. Another Sunday travel day, another very pleasant night as a customer of Glasgow hospitality (we haven’t been back here since supplying the Commonwealth Games in 2014) and back to site fresh on Monday morning.

Wow, what a difference a week makes. We walked in to a remarkable set that the actors and crew had vacated just a few hours earlier. The warehouse we’d left had been transformed into a complex and interesting section of a story. Of course I could say more, I could post a couple of personal snaps and I could spoil a tiny bit of the plot. That’s not going to happen because this is a set of the sequel to an iconic British film of the twentieth century: Trainspotting – and there’s every reason to expect T2 to reach those heights.

Personally, and I know for the four Hughes HGV drivers involved with this unusual and unexpected project, we cannot wait to see the finished film on the day of release to try and spot our 255 ex-film star products that were repatriated to East Anglia and could possibly be taking things easy in your home or business following a very short career in the movies.
