Review: Bosch Classixx Induction Hob

Guest blog by Glenys

I have just moved house, one of the top three most stressful things you can do, apparently. Once you’re in you usually think to yourself “Aaaah, time to relax” but I quickly remembered that our new kitchen is built-in and wired up for electrical appliances, only. I panicked – I’m a gas man (no puns), I’d never cooked on electric and my impression had always been that gas is quicker and cleaner. Some swift research and reviews of various brands gave me a shortlist and I spoke to a colleague who is expert in all things cooker, oven and hob related.

I was recommended a Bosch induction hob. Personally, I have always had Bosch appliances and have found them to be great; this was my first sojourn into their electrical hobs, however. The model I decided to go for was the Bosch PIA611B688. Bosch is German-built so the quality is first class, it fits very slick – all flush, no control knobs visible – it is all touch control with frameless surround finished off with a 13amp plug, no complicated hard wiring here!

I should mention that you probably have one or two saucepans hidden away in cupboards but these may not work on induction hobs. I know I have a few from when I was first married (40 years!) so I had to replace these with stainless steel pans as glass, ceramic or copper-bottomed pans will not work as induction works off magnetic energy to heat the pan. After much consideration (approximately 4 minutes) I went with the

(£99.99) saucepans. I also picked up a cleaner to look after my shiny
new hob, the Easy-Do Hob Cleaner Conditioner (£2.99) with a damp cloth and it brings it up like new every time.

bosch-hez390042The reason I chose to go for induction over just a standard halogen hob was that rather than heating up a large area when you might just have a small pan on, this heats up the pan rather than the hob by using magnetism, making them cheaper and safer to use!

Talking of safety, it was a huge factor in the purchase of this hob. The hob has to be switched on with a pan to work – ideal if you are a family with young children. The technology is more energy efficient than gas and with 17 levels of heat, you can ensure that you are cooking to the perfect temperature no matter what you are making. Another great plus if you’re in a hurry is the Power Function button; with this you are able to increase the heat by 50% if you are using a large pan. From a single boiled egg to complex, multi-ingredient recipes, this induction hob is an outstanding appliance and has helped our new kitchen become the heart of our new home.
