Review: EBAC Powerpac 18 Dehumidifier

Guest blog by Daryl

Now seems a good time to tell you about one of the most useful, yet overlooked household gadgets, the humble dehumidifier.

I’ve been using an EBAC Powerpac 18 dehumidifier for almost a year and it occurred to me how much time it saves – not to mention the chore of additional washing and drying of towels or disposal of kitchen roll, after about 20 minutes a day spent getting rid of condensation from the windows and doors.

EBAC was the pioneer of the domestic dehumidifier more than 30 years ago, from an original US idea. EBAC took into account our rather unique weather (lots of moisture and our climate is temperate, not suffering from extremes of heat or cold) that often means that we suffer from condensation and dampness in the winter, early spring and much of autumn!

Using the dehumidifier has taken the job of dealing with condensation away altogether and the home now seems warmer, drier and cosier. Our EBAC dehumidifier is capable of removing up to 18 litres a day, although in most circumstances the large 3.5L water bottle, accessed from the front, will be ample. When full it triggers a cut-off and a red warning light lets you know that it needs to be emptied. Add to that the quiet mode, running at around 44dB, and smart control with economy setting, two speed fan and two meter cord, and you have a very compact and convenient package.

In daily use it will cope with a 3 bedroom property (and even a conservatory if you have one) as long as you leave connecting doors open. Those with a conservatory with a glass roof will know about the extra water from the cold upper panels and that they are higher up and so trickier to get at. A dehumidifier will dramatically reduce the risk of mildew in corners and is a source of nice soft water for steam irons etc.

If you are considering a dehumidifier then we have models from EBAC and Dimplex offering different sizes and capacities, depending on the size of your home, all at competitive prices. View or buy online or find your nearest store for more information.
