Review: Samsung Q60 4K UHD QLED TV

Guest blog by Kevin,

If you want one of the latest Samsung TVs, we wouldn’t blame you! The Q60 is perfect if you want a newer model with all of the amazing features but not the hefty price tag. This TV does all you could ask of it and more with a stunning picture quality, great smart features and effortless navigation. It is guaranteed to be a perfect fit for any household.

With Samsung’s QLED technology, you have 100% colour and brightness 100% of the time, and with ultra HD and HDR compatibility you can see your favourite films and shows how the director intended them to be seen with pin-sharp resolution.

Setting up the Samsung Q60 TV is easy and effortless, it has two built-in tuners – one for Freeview HD and one for Freesat (which will need a suitable satellite dish). If you have Samsung’s ‘Smart Things’ app, you can use that to setup the TV. If not, you can skip this step and follow the on screen setup guide. Make sure to have your router password on hand to connect to your broadband router and use the catch up services/smart apps.

Once the TV is tuned in and your broadband settings are complete you can use the settings menu to fine-tune your viewing experience. The smart remote makes navigation of software and apps simple with three buttons for direct access to Netflix, Amazon Prime and Rakuten (these are subscription services). If you still cannot find what you’re looking for then press the microphone button on the smart remote for help from Samsung’s AI assistant ‘Bixby’.

The smart features don’t end there! With the built in apps you also have access to the most popular catch up services including BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 and My5. The Samsung Q60 is also one of the first TVs to come with the Apple TV app!

The Q60 also conquers its competition when it comes to connectivity with various sockets for all of your technological needs. Alongside the aerial and Freesat sockets, you also get four HDMI and two USB points with additional optical connections. As with most TV’s now there is no SCART socket. This means older equipment would be difficult to connect, although it’s not impossible!

To prevent your TV being a glaring eyesore when it’s not on, Samsung has invented Ambient Mode to create the perfect atmosphere via displayed artwork and photos. This gives the TV a level of customization that is uncommon among its competitors. This mode can also be set up with Samsung’s ‘Smart Things’ app. This enables you to take a picture of the TV’s surroundings and generate an image similar to your wallpaper pattern. Imagine… no more looking at a blank, uninteresting screen.

To conclude, the Samsung Q60 should have everything you need in a TV without being an eyesore. The UHD resolution creates a stunning picture with Samsung’s QLED technology creating vivid, bright colours that are true-to-life. It’s inclusion and compatibility with all of the main apps, including the new Apple TV app, means that you will always have plenty of choice on those epic movie nights.
