Review: Experience Premium Audio with the Sonos Arc Soundbar

Sonos Arc Soundbar Review

Guest blog by Sam from Hughes Lowestoft,

Today we are going to be talking about the Sonos Arc – their premium-end soundbar. Whether you’re watching your favourite TV shows and films or playing the latest games, the Sonos Arc will put you at the centre of the action. With crystal clear dialogue produced by their multitude of speakers, this soundbar creates an impressive sense of spaciousness in any room.

The Sonos Arc has eleven precisely engineered internal speakers which include two dedicated height channels. Each speaker is fine-tuned by Oscar-winning sound engineers which allows the Arc to give crystal clear dialogue so that you don’t miss a word however, if you need greater clarity when characters are quiet, you can turn on the speech enhancement option in the Sonos App. This enables the Sonos Arc to fire sound in all directions, rendering every whisper, explosion and beat with dramatic clarity, detail and depth.

Unlike its soundbar predecessor, the Playbar, the Sonos Arc has Dolby Atmos built in. This amazing feature maps the sound output in its available space for a 3D effect so that you can experience planes as if they’re flying overhead, hear footsteps moving across the room and feel the musical score all around you. It’s worth noting that this feature does require a TV that also supports Dolby Atmos to work effectively.

This is further enhanced by the addition of Sonos Trueplay. Like other products in the range, the inclusion of Sonos’ patented tuning technology takes the cinematic experience to new levels. Trueplay adapts the audio and tailors it to the unique acoustics of the room it is in providing precise, targeted sound by recalibrating the height channels. This allows you to hear the audio and musical scores exactly how they were originally intended for amazing results time after time.

The Sonos Arc also uses HDMI eArc technology. For those not in the know, the eArc is an improved connection that provides a big boost in bandwidth and speed, allowing you to send high quality audio from your tv straight to your new soundbar. This also means that all high bitrate formats available, like Dolby Atmos, are supported by this technology.

In terms of style, it is beautiful in its simplicity with one bar needing only two cables (one power lead and one HDMI). Available in either black or white, the bar itself is elegantly rounded with the option to sit it on your TV stand or mount it to the wall. It’s also worth noting that the Arc is easy to set up using the Sonos app where you can find easy, step-by-step instructions.

The fun doesn’t end when the TV is turned off! You can also use the Sonos Arc to stream music or podcasts from many streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and much more. What is great about the Sonos Arc is that you can control it using either your normal TV remote, the Sonos app, your voice (using voice control) or Apple AirPlay 2. If you want to add to the cinematic experience of the Sonos Arc, you can also pair it up with the Sonos Subwoofer and a pair of rear speakers like the popular Play:1.

Overall, we know that this is a great addition to any entertainment setup. Packed full of technology for the phenomenal results you expect from any and every Sonos product, each music and TV lover can agree that this is an amazing soundbar.
