Review: The Sonos Move

Sonos Move

Guest blog by Louis,

Sonos have been leading the way in smart audio technology for several years now and its latest addition, the Sonos Move, is no exception. From the first moment you set eyes on the speaker, its high quality in sound and design is both obvious and inevitable. The Sonos Move takes the popular features of the Sonos One and gives it the versatile portability that we all need in our busy lives.

Once you’ve got it unboxed and plugged in, you need to download the Sonos app onto your mobile or tablet in order to complete the setup process. Technophobes will be pleased to know that Sonos have made sure to make it as simple as possible, with clear step-by-step instructions on what you need to do and what is happening at that point in the set up. Once this is sorted, you are well on your way to great sounding audio whenever and wherever you go! After all, there is a plethora of compatible music services at your disposal such as TuneIn Radio, Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, Google Play, Apple Music and many more. The Sonos app also enables you to fine-tune your sound to your personal preferences.

Once set up, you can easily hear why the Move is considered one of the best portable speakers on the market. It really is in a class of its own for clarity and range and, thanks to the Trueplay software, you can even put it in a tumble dryer and it will still sound great! The speaker manages to handle high-pitched vocals one minute and thump out a brilliant bass note the next without distorting the sound.

Sonos Move outside

The main selling point of the Sonos Move is its portability. Because of this, the smart speaker comes in two main parts with a separate charger base for when the main speaker unit is not on the ‘move’. Sonos products have always been known for their astounding smart features and this installment does not fail to impress. Unlike its competitors, the Sonos Move can sense when it has changed location and will analyse the sound it is putting out in order to adjust it to make it sound as close to studio quality as possible in the location it has been placed. It does this all automatically without any outside intervention. As you can imagine, this is an amazing feature that is truly ahead of the curve in the smart speaker universe.

The design of the speaker is very similar to that of the latest Sonos releases, like the Beam and One speaker, with four touch buttons on top for skipping tracks, volume adjustment, turning the microphone on/off and stopping/starting music playback. Alongside these touch controls are four microphones that serve a very clever dual purpose. The most noticeable of these is the ability to enable smart assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant to operate your smart technology. The second feature is not something you would notice day-to-day, but it has a very powerful inbuilt tool called Trueplay audio adjustment to ensure that the speaker sounds amazing no matter where it is!

Sonos has always been a favourite at Hughes and the Move has cemented itself as another one of the great Sonos products that we will enjoy selling in to the New Year.  For full product specifications, please visit our website here or go to your nearest Hughes store for a friendly chat and a full demonstration of what Sonos has to offer.
