Spalding’s Pumpkin fest 2014

PUMPKIN SPALDING

Now in its 14th year, the Spalding Pumpkin Fest continues to draw young and old to the town and heralds the end of summer and the start of autumn.  This year’s event will take place on Friday 3rd October 2014. Keen to join in the action, our Spalding Hughes store will be staying open later than usual, until 7pm. The Parade starts in the Sheep Market, so come along with your pumpkins at 6.30pm.

The event – which has been a popular date on the calendar since 2000 – is organised by South Holland District Council, sponsored by Spalding firm David Bowman Pumpkins Ltd and supported by Spalding Welland Centenary Rotary Club and Spalding Lions.

As always, local schools and groups will play a big part in the run-up to the event and in the parade itself.

The climax of the night is a fireworks display from the top of the South Holland Centre.

There will be a charity market all day, street entertainment, activities and competitions throughout the day.

And, of course, with pumpkins taking centre stage there will be ideas, recipes and cooking demonstrations on how to get the best out of the tasty treat when you get home.

Throughout the day there will be a festival market with a mix of stalls from local charities and local producers.  Look out for the comedy street entertainment, or pick up some tips at the cooking demonstrations.

At 5.30pm,on the stage in the Market Place, there will be a fancy dress competition and live music.

The grand finale firework display takes place at 7.30pm.

In the spirit of friendly rivalry, the manager of our Spalding store, Tom, will be challenging ALL our shops and departments to a Halloween Pumpkin carve-off… PIMP YOUR PUMPKIN!  Watch this space for more info on this fun competition!
