After recently becoming the proud sponsors of Diss Otters Swimming Club (DOSC) we can safely say we are even more proud now, with the annual Diss Otters Gala held at the Norwich Sportspark UEA on 18th October swimmers from around the region took part in a variety of races in a variety of age groups and swimming strokes to compete for medals.

248 swimmers in age groups from 9 years up to 17 and overs took part.

There were 9 different events to compete in, with boys and girls groups, totalling 18 events.

Hosts of the event, Diss Otters, really pulled out all the stops in their team, with 88% of them achieving their PB times (Personal Best) and in doing so the team managed to collect:

            • 43 Golds

            • 23 Silvers

            • 20 Bronze

A huge congratulations and well done to all involved! We’ll keep our fingers crossed that the rest of the year is just as successful for all the swimmers.

This was an incredibly well attended gala with clubs all over the county participating and we hope everyone had a fantastic day – looking forward to the next event already!

dosc hughes tDOSC was originally formed in 1987 under the name Waveney Otters, but was renamed in 2002 to its current name to avoid confusion with Waveney Swimming Club. The club has in excess of 150 members, plus a team of 8 coaches with 12 assistants. DOSC committee is run by volunteers, and is a non-profit making organisation, where the expenses of pool hire, kit and equipment etc are raised through swimmers fees, sponsorships, raffles draws and competitions.

dosc hughes groupDiss Otters Swimming Club aims to be a club for the community, working together at all levels and ages to inspire swimmers to reach their full potential. They aim to achieve this by providing a secure and caring environment where every member is valued and encouraged to work together as a team to achieve their goals.

Diss Otters have 5 main swimming squads, plus their pre-otters group called Potters, where younger swimmers develop towards level 6 ASA awards. The other 5 squads build on swimmers abilities and develop them to achieve more, these squads are:

• Bronze Squad – working towards level 9 ASA awards.

• Silver Squad

• Gold Squad – where swimmers are expected to swim for the club if they are selected, and to work for and enter County Championships and County Challenge.

• Platinum Squad

• Elite Squad – striving towards Regional Qualifying Time, or have attended Regionals in the last 12 months OR qualifying time for squad achievement. Swimmers would also be expected to enter County Championships, enter Open Meets and they must swim for the club if selected.

There is also a squad for Masters (swimmers over 18 who either wish to train to keep fit or compete).
