Here at Hughes we know that it’s our brilliant team of staff that keep customers coming back, time and time again.  We actively recruit people who’re knowledgeable about our products but also great with people. It’s always great, then, when we find hidden talents, skills and hobbies that we didn’t know about and today’s blog focuses on one such individual.

Graham, at our Spalding store, is a keen amateur radio enthusiast and recently picked up some images sent by the International space station, which he has shared with us.

The pictures were transmitted by the Russian crew on board the space station, these are received when you are in range of it, as it passes either overhead or in a pass that has a footprint on earth that you are located in, very similar to receiving a radio station when travelling in a car that is weak: the closer you get the stronger it becomes.

To receive the pictures you need a scanner or Amateur Radio Transceiver, the audio out of this goes to the input of a computer, possibly by a small interface, you may even be able to use your iPad by holding it close to the speaker with the correct app, the signals at times are very strong so easily received on simple equipment.

For more information on Amateur Radio visit  www.rsgb.org or pick up a copy of Practical Wireless from the newsagent.

For some out-of-this-world help (see what I did there) or just to chat to Graham, head over to our Spalding store where Graham, manager Tom and the team will show you some astronomical deals!
