Ahhh, the school summer holiday; stress-free mornings, endless lie-ins, languid mornings with only coffee and the paper for company… that was my life BK (before kids). Now, however, with two young children, the excitement of days out begins before 9am. Alas, the adults in this house need some gentle rousing and so it was to the Ortus 2 we turned. Read on, find out more and enter our FREE competition to WIN an Ortus 2, from Roberts.

I prefer to wake up to the radio (you can use DAB or FM) and use the snooze function (I think my record was 23 ‘snoozes’) to ease me into the day. My husband, on the other hand, is an up-and-at-‘em chap, so prefers the buzzer. The ‘any button snooze’ function is a fab little feature; the fumble & flail of finding the correct button to snooze an alarm is invariably enough to fully wake me so I am particularly keen on this. With their usual attention to detail, Roberts appreciates that adaptability is key, so the snooze time is adjustable (likewise, the sleep and nap functions). The sleep function is another clever feature; it gradually fades the audio down as it gets closer to the chosen ‘sleep’ duration, helping you to drift off peacefully.

There are some great DAB digital radio stations with crystal clear reception, and the FM frequency gives access to any stations that haven’t yet gone digital or aren’t currently in your area (check availability and stations here). The 20 presets mean you can store a large number of your favourite stations and have three instantly accessible via 3 preset buttons on top.

There’s also a USB charging port, ideal for keeping your smart phone or tablet recharging – while you do, too! An added auxiliary-in port means that you can play tunes from your smart device, MP3 player or iPod to make the Ortus 2 your bedside speaker.

The clock display is clear and also fully dimmable, allowing you to find the right level of brightness to suit your room; in night-time mode the display fades to black, illuminating for 10 seconds at the touch of a button.

Overall, the Ortus 2 is an excellent bedside companion, equipped with dual alarms, a very handy any button snooze, adjustable sleep and nap timers, together with a USB charging socket to charge up your smart device while you sleep.
