Delivery and installation information

About your delivery

Thank you for shopping with us, find out everything you need to know about your upcoming delivery with Hughes. From fitting the appliance through your home to installing your new purchase and disposing of the old model, we can do all of the hard work for you using our handy delivery and installation services detailed below.

Delivery slots

Once you have placed your order and the delivery date is confirmed, we will let you know when your order is being prepped for delivery. You will receive a text or an email with your two-hour delivery window the day before we’re due to arrive. Our drivers will call you, usually on the day, to confirm the details and will keep you up to date if they have any delays. Delivery We want to help you as much as possible, which is why we will deliver your item to a room of your choice and will happily unbox it (excluding American-style Fridge Freezers). If you’d like us to, we can also take away the packaging. For the safety of our staff, bulky appliance deliveries or collections will only be made to ground floor properties and appliances must not ascend or descend more than three steps/stairs. Unfortunately, we are unable to remove your doorframes, windows or make any amendments to your home to get a bulky item in. We know this can be inconvenient so, where possible, we will try our best to modify the appliance by removing doors and parts to get it to fit through your property.

With this in mind, we recommend measuring all door frames and entry ways into the home to ensure that our delivery team can safely get your new purchase to where it needs to be. If our delivery team cannot reach the designated room with your new appliance then the delivery and installation may not be able to go ahead as planned. Please make sure to also measure where it is to be installed and accommodate for the required air gap around the appliance for ventilation purposes.

Installations & additional services

If you’ve asked for us to take an old item away, we need this to be ready and disconnected unless you’ve selected one of our installation add-ons at the checkout. All of our installation and rental services include disconnecting and removing an old appliance before we fit the new one, however disposal of the item is a paid-for extra available when you make your purchase.

Safety is our top priority, which is why we use test equipment before we fit any electrical appliances. This usually means that the appliance needs to be within 1-metre of an electrical socket or a suitable extension lead. Please note that we will only be able to connect one appliance to any extension lead.

At the end of any installation, we’ll take you through a short demonstration of the product's main features and give you the chance to ask any questions so that you can get the most out of your new appliance.

 A few things we can’t do…

  • We won’t be able to install products too near to basins, baths, showers or toilets.
  • We can’t stack appliances on top of each other without suitable stacking kits.
  • We can’t install items like Washing Machines at height.

Access for our vehicle

We deliver in large vans, so please let us know in advance if there are any issues with parking or access (including whether we need a permit or the like) as we always want the process to go as smoothly as possible.

Removal of packaging

We can take away all of the packaging for you and sometimes we will even unwrap items on the vehicle to save making a mess. The team will go to every effort to protect your floors and walls whilst they complete the job.

When we arrive

An adult will need to be present for the delivery (someone 18 or older) and we ask that the route to where we are working, as well as the work area, is cleared. This lets us get straight on with the job. Our teams do have to fill in a brief safety assessment for every job and will discuss with you any issues they find.

Photographing our work

Our teams like to take lots of photographs as they work so that we can do safety checks afterwards. This way, our managers can be sure everything has been done the way it should be.

If we’re delivering a refrigeration appliance, it will need to be left for a minimum of 4 hours before the power can be turned on.

We may need to remove the doors of some larger refrigeration appliances to make it easier for our teams to fit. Whether we can do this depends on if it can be done safely without risking damage to the property or products.

When we’ve been asked for a door reversal, it’s likely we will have done this in the depot before it arrives with you. This is to avoid causing damage and some products may have electrical connections which require testing.

Most refrigeration appliances require a minimum ambient temperature of 5 °C. Please consider this when choosing where to place your appliance and contact us in advance if you have any concerns.

It's important to us that we take every precaution to protect your property, so we’ll need to make sure the plumbing and drainage is suitable before we start connecting or disconnecting things. We must be able to isolate the water supply at the point of connection. The team will discuss with you any issue they come across, such as seized taps, as it may be additional work is required before we can complete an installation.

If the water and drainage point are further than 1.5 meters away from where the appliance is positioned, we may not be able to complete the installation. Our teams do carry extension equipment that may be suitable and allow us to get the job done, but we can only make one extension connection per point. The waste stand-pipe we connect to must be a minimum of 60cm in length, and the waste hose from the appliance must be positioned at a height less than 100cm from the base of the machine. This is to ensure that no flooding will take place whilst the machine drains. We do not fit to plastic Y pieces, but we are happy to replace these with a brass fitting free of charge.

We check all wet connections to minimize the risk of any leakage, but please be prepared that there may be some minor spillages around the installation area whilst the work is underway. We’ll clean this up as we go. Most plumbed in products are tested with water in the factory, so don’t be surprised if it's wet inside your new product even before we have connected it. Washing machines have transit bolts fitted to protect them before they are installed. As part of the installation process we will remove these and leave them with you.

Our team will need to inspect any electrical supply to cooking appliances. This is to ensure that it meets our requirements for a safe installation. We’ll likely need access to the fuse box in order to do this work. The diagram below gives some guidance as to what we look for around where the appliance is being fitted:

Please be aware that we will usually need to fit a safety chain to freestanding cookers, which could involve a small amount of drilling or screwing into cabinets, worktops or walls. We train our teams to complete extensive electrical safety tests for cooking appliances but we can’t complete more complex electrical work. The team will explain any issue they find that would result in an installation failure.

There can often be residue left from the manufacturing process on hobs and the inside of the oven. It is also not uncommon for some smoke or unusual smells to be produced the first time you use these new products.

It is not recommended to select a product with an induction-type hob if any member of the household has a pacemaker or insulin pump fitted. We recommend you seek the advice of a medical professional before making your decision.
If you’ve selected a vented tumble dryer, we won’t be able to drill through walls to create a vent point.

Heat Pump dryers might need to stand before plugging in for two hours.

Most heat pump tumble dryers require a minimum ambient temperature of 5 °C. Please consider this when choosing where to situate your appliance and contact us in advance if you have any concerns.
We will connect your new products to suitable aerial or satellite points and can tune them in where required. We will also make sure that your other compatible devices are connected and working.

The services you receive could be limited by your location or network speed.

For internet connected products, we’ll need an ethernet point to connect to unless they are WiFi-enabled (in which case we’ll need your WiFi password).

We can assist you to log into web apps but ask that you do not share your personal data with our teams and we cannot create any accounts for you due to data protection reasons.

We’ll fit any legs or stands that come with your products and build any furniture you have as part of your order.

We do not complete any cable management e.g trunking, or fit satellite speakers around your room for you, but we will leave things as tidy as we can.
When you placed your order, you should have been asked questions about your installation. Please let us know if you haven’t been asked about the type of bracket we’re fitting or where we’re fitting the product.

If we are fitting to an existing bracket, we will need details of this so we can ascertain if it is suitable.

An on-site assessment will need to be carried out by our team to ensure the job can proceed safely.
Our built-in fitting service is designed for the more technical installations where we will likely need to alter your cabinetry alongside our normal installation service.

Our specialist trained teams have all of the equipment required to fit facia panels and cut kitchen plinths as well as wooden/laminate worktops.

If you have any concerns regarding the measurements of the appliance you have ordered, please contact us in advance to confirm installation arrangements.

If we’re delivering a refrigeration appliance or a heat pump product, it will need to be left for a minimum of four hours before the power can be turned on. For built-in plumbed appliances, please read the section above.
For built-in cooking appliances, the guidance on measurements relating to the hot zone in the section above should be noted.
A suitable electrical supply will be required to meet our guidance for a safe installation. Please contact us in advance if you are unsure whether the product you have selected will be suitable.

It is not recommended to select a product with an induction-type hob if any member of the household has a pacemaker or insulin pump fitted. We recommend that you seek the advice of a medical professional before making your decision.
