The Manhattan S4-R is a Freesat TV recorder designed for viewers who want access to live, recorded and on-demand television without a monthly subscription. Released in 2026, it connects to an existing satellite dish to deliver over 100 Freesat channels, including more than 35 in high definition, making it a practical choice for households that already have a dish installed or those in areas where aerial reception is unreliable.
With 1TB of internal storage, the S4-R offers up to 600 hours of recording capacity, giving viewers plenty of space to build a library of their favourite programmes. Up to four programmes can be recorded simultaneously when used with a compatible setup as fitted for Sky Q, or up to two with older satellite configurations. Live television can also be paused for up to two hours and rewound at any point, offering greater flexibility over how and when content is watched.
The built-in TV guide can be browsed by genre, channel or traditional grid view, with filters available for subtitles, audio description and HD content. Viewers can look ahead a full week or explore catch-up options, all within a single interface. A unified search function covers both live television and on-demand applications simultaneously, reducing the time spent looking for content across different services.
Connecting to Wi-Fi opens access to on-demand applications including BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5 and YouTube, all integrated within the S4-R's interface. The device supports 4K HDR output, and when streaming via BBC iPlayer or YouTube on a compatible television, content is displayed in Ultra HD resolution. A quad-core processor keeps the experience fast and responsive across live viewing, recording and streaming.
