The Manhattan S4-R is a Freesat 4K TV recorder launched in 2026, offering access to free-to-view satellite television without any monthly subscription fees. It receives over 100 Freesat channels, including more than 35 in high definition, by connecting to an existing satellite dish. Once connected to Wi-Fi, it also provides access to BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5, YouTube, and more, all integrated within the device's interface.
This 2TB model includes a built-in hard drive capable of storing up to 1200 hours of recorded content, giving viewers an extensive personal library of their favourite programmes. The recorder supports simultaneous recording of up to four programmes at once when used with a compatible setup, such as one fitted for Sky Q, or up to two programmes with older satellite configurations. Live TV can also be paused for up to two hours and rewound at any point.
The on-screen TV guide can be browsed by genre, channel, or traditional grid view, with filters available for subtitles, audio description, and HD content. It displays a full week of upcoming programming and allows users to explore catch-up content. A unified search function covers both live TV and on-demand apps simultaneously, reducing the time spent looking for content across different services.
The S4-R supports 4K HDR output, enabling Ultra HD streaming via BBC iPlayer and YouTube on a compatible television. It is powered by a quad-core processor, which ensures apps open quickly, streams remain stable, and navigation between sections is smooth.
