Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 7 Dolby Atmos Soundbar
- 9 Speaker Units
- 360 Spatial Sound Mapping
- Dolby Atmos
- DTS X
- BRAVIA Connect
The Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 7 is a compact soundbar designed to deliver cinematic surround sound from a single unit. Equipped with 9 speaker units and 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, it creates 5 phantom speakers in front of the listener while reflecting sound off the ceiling and walls to produce cinema-style surround sound throughout the room. The system combines physical and phantom speakers to achieve a wider surround sound field than conventional virtual surround systems, allowing more people in the room to experience the same immersive audio regardless of where they are seated.
The Bar 7 features a 2-way speaker system with dedicated woofers and tweeters for the front left and right channels, alongside up-firing speakers that reflect sound off the ceiling for overhead audio, side speakers that direct sound off the walls, and a full-range centre speaker for clear, natural dialogue. Built-in woofers and passive radiators produce deep, resonant bass despite the soundbar's slimline form. The X-Balanced Speaker Unit design uses a rectangular diaphragm to maximise diaphragm area, reduce driver excursion, maintain sound pressure, and minimise distortion.
For those looking to expand the system, optional wireless rear speakers can be added, enabling 360 Spatial Sound Mapping to generate up to 11 phantom speakers, including speakers behind the listener. Compatible optional subwoofers from the Bravia Theatre range can further enhance low-frequency performance. The soundbar supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and holds IMAX Enhanced certification, making it compatible with select IMAX Enhanced titles available on Disney+ when paired with a compatible Bravia TV.
Sound Field Optimisation analyses a room's acoustic characteristics using the BRAVIA Connect smartphone app and applies advanced signal processing to calibrate the sound field to suit the listener's position and the room's acoustics. Setup requires only a single HDMI cable and power connection, and the BRAVIA Connect app provides guided configuration from start to finish, including sound calibration. A QR code printed on the top insert of the packaging directs users to the app immediately upon unboxing.
When paired with a compatible Bravia TV, the Bar 7 integrates directly with the television's Quick Settings menu, allowing sound settings including Sound Field and volume to be adjusted using the TV remote. Voice Zoom 3, powered by AI machine learning, identifies and amplifies human voices for clearer dialogue on compatible Bravia TVs. A supplied spacer enables the soundbar to sit over the TV stand for a tidy, space-saving arrangement.
The Bar 7 supports HDMI 2.1, preserving source picture quality up to 8K HDR. For gaming, it delivers immersive overhead sound with the PlayStation 5 console and supports VRR, ALLM, and SBTM. When connected to a compatible Bravia TV, it also enables Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode. Multiple sound modes are available, including upmixing, which uses Sony's algorithm to redistribute audio objects into 3D surround sound from stereo content with AI Sound Separation for clearer voices, and Multi Stereo, which plays sound from both front and rear speakers for a full-room effect. DSEE Ultimate uses Edge-AI to upscale compressed digital music files in real time to restore acoustic detail.
Music playback is supported through built-in Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay, and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing audio to be streamed from smartphones, tablets, and laptops. The system is designed with environmental responsibility in mind, with approximately 75% of the packaging made from recycled paper and paper-based materials, and approximately 87% of the speaker fabric made from recycled cloth. Accessibility features include a raised square frame around the QR code to assist users with low vision, screen reader support within the BRAVIA Connect app, and tactile dots on the rear panel to guide users to the eARC HDMI terminal.
